Vineyards and the Terroir

The Santoro’s family vineyards cover an area of 30 hectares. The vineyards are located on the north-west side of the volcanic massif of Roccamonfina, in the village of Galluccio, which is in the north-western part of the province of Caserta.
The Santoro’s vineyards are located at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level and they have an excellent sun exposure and a continuous ventilation.
On the hills Galluccio, the soils are directly affected by the lava flows and the volcano eruptions.
The soils can be considered as shallow soils with an important presence of large pyroclastic rock. A huge presence of “lava bomb or volcanic bomb” characterises the territory too.
The eruptive activity made the soils very fertile, draining, rich in mineral with a fair presence of humus and waterways. Therefore the soils are particularly fertile and appropriate for whatever crop and particularly excellent for the growing grapes.
The climate is generally temperate throughout the year, with an average rainfall, extremely favourable spring and summer temperatures, and average wind strength and frequency.
The environment is adequately ventilated, bright and favourable to the fulfilment of all vegetative-productive functions of the plant.
